Complete the "Rent Check Bounced Scenario" checklist
When you're done with all the tasks below, mark that you've completed this checklist.
Note: It can take 7-15 days for the bank to notify you that the check has bounced.
Tenant Contacts You Before the Bank
Sometimes your tenant simply may have forgotten to transfer money or a paycheck wasn't deposited on time. If they have the money just tell them to pay rent as well as any returned check fees and extra rent.
Follow up with an email and a letter.
Bank Contacts you Before Tenant
If your tenant doesn't let you know and the check bounces, call the tenant. Let them know the check bounced and let them know what is owed. Include any returned check fees and extra rent.
Follow up with an email and a letter.
Collect Rent or Setup Payment Plan
Collect the rent due or setup an acceptable payment plan.
If you're going with a payment plan write out the terms and have the tenant sign it.
